Up close these quilts appear to be a work of modern art using fabric and quilting as the medium. Seen from a distance, the image magically appears. Quilted Photo Xpress 3.0 software makes it easy to create your own pattern.

This is a great technique for beginners, teens, or those who don't like to sew. In fact, it can be accomplished with NO sewing -- except for the quilting at the end. (And you can always pay someone to do that for you!)

Here's how it works:

Scan your photograph or use a digital photo. Process it using the software and print a pattern. The size of your finished quilt will depend on the size of your squares and the resolution of the photograph: the more resolution, the more squares, and the larger the quilt. You can go as small as 1/4" squares up to whatever size you choose.

Then, choose your fabrics. The secret to this process is picking fabrics that range in value from very light to very dark. A monochromatic color scheme is suggested for your first photograph quilt, i.e. all shades of blue or all shades of brown.

The most important step in making your photo quilt is arranging your fabrics in order by color value (from light to dark.) Since it is sometimes difficult to see the color value of fabrics with the naked eye, the software is used to see the value of fabrics separate from the color.

Now the magic really begins as you create your fabric photograph. It really is an easy process -- if you've ever done a paint-by-number picture, you've pretty much got the process figured out.
