ByAnnie Top Voted

WINNER: Natalia Z

Pattern: Catch All Caddy

THEIR STORY:   I wanted to share the joy of By Annie's bag making with 3 other members of of the Kenya Quilt guild ( Africa) se we organized a sew along retreat for 3 days.

I needed a bag to carry my iPhone photography equipment ( tripods, lenses, cleaning cloths etc. for the days I am out and about in Safari or out exploring this magnificent continent.

The catch all caddy 2.0 was the perfect choice and I chose the Effervescence fabric because I didn't want to have to change spools and bobbins all the time. I used only black thread and it worked very well.

WHAT WE LOVED: Annie had this to say, "I love how Natalia staged her bag — the African scenery in the back is perfect and I enjoyed seeing her camera equipment along with the Catch All Caddy that she made to carry it. Great fabrics that really make the projects shine!"

WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Storyteller Award

WINNER: Petra R    @peeteesews

Pattern: Tools of the Trade

THEIR STORY:  It was finally time for me to make the ultimate by Annie bag, the gigantic Tools of the Trade, in size large. I have sewn many by Annie bags, but unfortunately, I only have two arms and have had a difficult time carrying them all in sewing retreats (sometimes making three to four trips between my car and our sewing room).

I definitely needed a bag which could carry my cutting mat and protect some of my larger rulers, as well as a place for the many tools, notions and of course, fabrics. The pattern is, as per usual, very detailed and easy to follow. It was so much fun to make and to see how it all comes together.

In the end I was so thrilled; not only does the bag fit all my tools and mats and rulers, but because of the deep bottom of the bag, it holds project bags and pocket packers as well! And my most favourite design element? The fact that the bag is cut slightly on an angle so that it leans towards the back when propped up.

How ingenious of Annie and her team! And now when I arrive at my next sewing retreat and the elevator is in service (like last time!) I’ll be able to trot up the stairs with my machine in one hand, my Tools of the Trade over my shoulder and I can begin on my next project right away!

Quilt Shop Highlight

WINNER: Watergirl Quilt Co.

THEIR STORY:   Charlie has been coming to visit her Mom’s cousin in Brockville a couple of times a year. Her Mom’s cousin happens to be Michelle - Owner of Watergirl Quilt Co in Prescott, Ontario.

This time they came down for the byAnnie watch party and stayed for a few days during March Break. Last summer Charlie learned to make pillow cases with Michelle and this time it was a by Annie Sew Simple Wallet.

Charlie made one for herself that she says took an hour but her Mom’s only took a half hour. She’s a quick learner. Don't be confused by how tall she is Charlie is just 8 yrs old.

There’s a full video on Watergirl Quilt Co’s Facebook page of Charlie’s Tips and Tricks. Like how to make sure your embroidered patch isn’t upside down.

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Annelies V

PATTERN: Bowl Me Over

THEIR STORY:   And once again I made a Bowl Me Over. I've made many before, so now the challenge is in the materials used. Main fabric is boucle and I used leather for the flap and facings.

It wasn't easy. The boucle is thick, a bit stretchy and frays terribly. Working with leather was completely new to me.
But I'm happy with how it turned out...🙃

I placed the carrying strap on the sides instead of the front and back. That's why I've added side pockets with carrying strap tabs (same way as it's done in the UTB).

To ensure the attachment of the carrying strap ends up in the right place, I increased the side strip and decreased the zipper strips (if you place the carrying strap too low, the bag will tip over).

Two large mesh zippered pockets on the inside. A leftover of quilted fabric was just enough for a small zippered pouch.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Gloria had this to say, "It's a beautiful project with a great combination of fabrics, and I love the great embroidery design!"

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Casey had this to say, " Love seeing our items in use and making lives better. Happy campers! "
