WINNER:  Elaine H  @elainessews6

PATTERN: Travel Essentials, Clam Up

THEIR STORY:  My daughter is traveling for spring break and wanted a Toiletry bag. I had taken a class on FPP last fall and thought I would give it a try. It came out nice. Hugo agreed that’s why he had to get in the picture too.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Randi had this to say, "It's a lovely matching set, and her dog obviously approves."

WHAT THEY WON: $50 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Storyteller Award

WINNER: Sue G

PATTERN: Backseat Babysitter

THEIR STORY:  Backseat Babysitter Organizer 2.0

This pattern looked like the perfect project to make for my great grandson’s 8th birthday on February 21st.

His name is Stone and he has special needs: he is on the Autism Spectrum and non-verbal. Stone doesn’t speak but understands what you are saying. Stone likes using screens with games and sounds.

He has a tablet with special software that enables him to communicate (a little) with pictures, words & audio. When in the car, he sits in a booster seat in back of the driver’s seat. I’m hoping this organizer will be a very useful & fun addition to his backseat experience.

I made a few minor changes to the pattern. On Unit 1, the vinyl window section, I centered the vinyl window adding a small amount to the right side facing and reducing the facing on left side a little. (I don’t like things to be asymmetrical.) This will allow the tablet to be centered on the organizer.

Another change was on Unit 3. I also made the pockets as three equal mesh pockets, centering the middle one. Since I knew the organizer would never be used on a stroller, the D-rings and stroller straps were not added.

The dogs on the printed fabric look as if they are riding with him and are interested in being his friends!

Stone is familiar with a few dogs in his life. Since he is a growing boy, I didn’t want to use a childish print that he would outgrow. On the back of the organizer, I chose the fabric with his mother in mind. She likes Southwestern/Native American designs. The organizer has so many handy pockets in addition to the two bottle holders. I know Stone & his mother (my granddaughter) will be finding it very useful for them both.

SewPINK

WINNER: Sarah P

PATTERN: Bosom Buddy

THEIR STORY:  I thought this would never happen to me.

I mean, I’m a Practice Manager for a private Gynecologist in New Zealand—but I’m living my best life, semi-retired, sewing ByAnnie in my spare time.

If I could tell women all over the world one thing about being sensible and saving their lives, it’s this: If you’re in menopause and experience spotting or bleeding—yes, down there, in the Garden of Eden—go to your doctor and get yourself checked. Sometimes, it’s the only warning sign we get that something is seriously wrong.

At 57, with no periods since I was 52, I knew sudden spotting just before Christmas was a concern. So I got myself checked. It wasn’t cancer—thankfully—but I was diagnosed with adenomyosis, and a hysterectomy was the best course of action.

The drive home after surgery was… tender. Five laparoscopic incisions made sure I felt every bump in the road.

Enter: Sew Pink!

A few days into recovery, I was determined to make the healing process easier. The thought of a seatbelt pressing against my sore belly? No thanks! So I made myself a purple Tummy Buddy!

And let me tell you—it’s perfect.

It’s a godsend.

It’s the relief I needed.

Keys in hand, I walked to the car to try it out. My partner, ever the sentinel, followed closely. No driving for two weeks meant he was on high alert.

“Can you take a photo of this? It’s for ByAnnie.”

If you’ve had stomach surgery, do yourself a favour—make one!

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Jacque had this to say, "What an awesome way to use a Bosom Buddy. I never would have considered this, but it looks like it works wonderfully."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Debra J

PATTERN: Out to Lunch

THEIR STORY:  I found this embroidery design on Urban Threads and stitched it out not sure what to do with it. I had a hard time finding a bag/sewing pattern that the design would fit without straps covering up the embroidery.

When I found the fabric at my local quilt shop I knew exactly which pattern I wanted to use. I made the large Out to Lunch. This lunch bag is very sturdy and holds a lot of food. I will also be using it for traveling. The wide opening makes it easy to see and get out items easily.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Bunker had this to say, " The elephant on the front of this bag is beautiful. I love how it is the center of attention. What a great way to use the design."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Elizabeth S  @elizabethsmith

PATTERN: Piecekeeper

THEIR STORY:  Thank you for the tutorial on paperpiecing for the Piecekeeper pattern. I knew exactly what I was going to make watching the video you presented! I had to make this to match my quilt.

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Casey had this to say, " Awesome to see our cancer awareness piece match a winning quilt!"

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com

Honorable Mention

WINNER: Melissa M  @MinniehahaHomestead

PATTERN: Round Trip Duffle

THEIR STORY:  I had a customer reach out asking me to turn her son’s Air Force jackets into a duffle bag for him. I searched for the best pattern I thought a soldier would appreciate. This was by far the hardest project I’ve ever taken on. After deconstructing the jackets I cut them down into 3” squares and quilted them onto soft and stable. It was a lot of work, but I love the outcome!

WHAT WE LOVED: Our team member Asa had this to say, " This is my favorite bag because it is so creative and clearly so heartfelt. The process to deconstruct the jackets in itself is impressive, but to turn it into such a great bag puts this project over the top."

WHAT THEY WON: $15 coupon to use on ByAnnie.com
