Jacque Davis

We are pleased to announce our new and improved pattern, Double Zip Gear Bag 2.0. Watch the video below for an informative intro to these roomy, fun-to-sew bags. And, to see more about what it takes to make Double Zip Gear Bag 2.0, watch our A Closer Look video!

About the pattern!

Perfect for toiletries, electronic gear, shoes, and more, these functional bags in three sizes will keep you well-groomed and organized. Sew a set for the nursery, for travel, or for organizing a child’s toys!

The double-zippered top opens easily for full access to the roomy interior.

Two exterior zippered pockets and two interior slip pockets keep things neat and organized.

A sturdy handle on one end makes carrying easy.

What's different?

Double Zip Gear Bag 2.0 is an update of our popular Double Zip Gear Bag pattern which was released in 2016.

Just like a new edition of a textbook, this new version of the pattern features improved design and layout, easier-to-follow steps and diagrams, and our newest and best techniques.

Best of all, the new version of the pattern includes instructions for bags in three sizes.

  • The medium bag is similar to the original pattern, with some minor changes to dimensions and markings.
  • The small bag is about 25% smaller than the original. It's perfect for makeup, toiletries, or sewing supplies.
  • The large bag is about 25% larger, so would be ideal for shoes, clothes, and more.

We have also filmed an Add-On Video for the project to help you make the bag. Since the Double Zip Gear Bag 2.0 pattern includes a coupon to get the Add-On Video at no charge, we recommend that you purchase the new and improved version of the pattern.

Three useful sizes.

Double Zip Gear Bag 2.0 contains instructions for three different sizes of gear bag:

SMALL: 4"H x 8½"W x 5½"D

MEDIUM: 5"H x 10½"W x 7"D

LARGE: 6½"H x 13½"W x 9"D

Each of these sizes are great for gifting or using yourself!

Not sure what size you want? Sew all three and nest them inside each other when they’re not in use! Start with the largest size to get the hang of the process and work your way down to the smallest size. We guarantee you’ll find uses for all of these handy bags!

Use these bags to carry all sorts of things:

  • Toiletries
  • Shoes
  • Baby shower gifts - diapers, wipes, formula
  • First aid supplies
  • Sewing/craft supplies
  • Tools
  • Thread cones/spools/bobbins
  • Project pieces
  • Shaving kit
  • Children’s toy sets
  • Puzzles
  • Electronics - gaming equipment, cords, chargers

Great for the guys!

We often hear, “I want to sew a project for my son-in-law or husband. Which ByAnnie pattern would make a good gift for a guy?”

Our first answer is usually “Double Zip Gear Bag” and that’s still true today!

Many of our bags can be sewn for a guy or a friend with more gender-neutral or masculine sensibilities. You just need to switch up the fabric!

The choice of fabric can completely change the look of a project. We used “Lumber Jack Aaron” by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin Design Co. for Riley Blake Designs for the set on top.

For the set on the bottom, we used “Norma Rose” by Natalie Barnes of Beyond The Reef for Windham Fabrics.

As you can see, you can get a totally different aesthetic or “look” just by using colors and fabric designs the recipient would love.

If the gift isn’t a surprise, consider taking the lucky recipient with you on a trip to your local quilt shop to pick fabrics. Or let them raid your fabric stash. They might surprise you with their fabric choice or color preferences!

These bags could also be fun to sew in fabrics that match home decor, a favorite sports team, school spirit colors, or even solids.

Consider adding embroidery to the top of the bag for an added personal touch.
